Visit the Topkapi Palace and the Underground Cistern

Accompanied by a local guide we visit the opulent Topkapi Palace. A sprawling complex of buildings that used to be home to thousands of residents and was considered a city within a city. The power seat of the Ottoman Empire from 1465 to 1830, one of longest-standing empires in recorded history, it preserves the finest architecture and artifacts of its age.

After we visited the palace, we will have a short walk to also have a look at the impressive Underground Cistern created by the Romans as a water source for both the Byzantine Emperors and later the Ottomans' Topkapi Palace.

Visit the Hagia Sophia and the Archeological Museum

Accompanied by a local guide we visit the renowned Hagia Sophia, a unique architectural marvel. Originally, the site was the home of a pagan temple. The Hagia Sophia was built as a Christian cathedral, before being converted into a Muslim Mosque during Ottoman rule in 1453. In 1934 the building was secularized, and the following year it was turned into a museum.

Afterwards, we go to visit the remarkable Istanbul Archaeological Museum. Housing an exceptional collection of archaeological treasures, this museum offers a glimpse into the past. Among its notable exhibits are the captivating sarcophagi from the Royal Necropolis of Sidon, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and historical significance.

Cooking Class

Shop, Cook, Feast: A Hands-On Istanbul Culinary Adventure

Behind every great Turkish cook is a neighbourhood community – a baker, a third-generation milkman, a greengrocer with fresh seasonal produce, a butcher who’s owned the same shop for decades. Nowhere in Istanbul is this local culture more alive than in Kurtuluş, where our cooking experience takes place.

Before we start cooking, we will explore the shops of Kurtuluş as we gather our ingredients. Back at the kitchen, we will teach you how to cook six of our favourite Turkish recipes from all over Turkey – dishes like Circassian chicken, stuffed eggplant from Southeastern Turkey, Aegean-style mincemeat pastries and more.

Once lunch is ready, we enjoy and celebrate the food that we’ve prepared. Of course, dessert and Turkish coffee must not be missing at the end.
